Winchester Round Nose .177 Pellets

Winchester Round Nose .177 Pellets

OVERVIEW

Picked these up for plinking with a Hatsan 125 Vortex break barrel and an Umarex Gauntlet PCP. The Hatsan 125 does really well with the OLD version of the Winchester hollow points (not so much with the newer ones, the lighter ones). That was the primary driver for trying these round nose. In the Hatsan 125 they are pretty accurate at 25 yards. In the Umarex Gauntlet, they are essentially tact driver. The reason I decided to do this review was based on the fact that Daisy/Winchester changed the hollow point pellets and I wanted to see what Amazon was going to send me and then just weigh a sample of them.
RESULTS (in order of pellets weighed)

  1. 7.6
  2. 7.64
  3. 7.6

On Amazon, they give the weight as 9.6……….not even close.  To be fair, if you go to the Winchester site, they will say about 7.56 grains.

PROS

►Pretty uniform in size and weight

►Price

►Relatively clean

►Somewhat accurate in both Umarex Gauntlet and Hatsan Mod 125 break barrel (at least for medium weight pellet)

CONS

►Amazon description of pellet weight of 9.6 grains is not correct, close to 7.6

►Pellet skirts are a little narrow for the Hatsan Mod 125 (see comparison between the skirt diameter between the Winchester hollow points and round nose)  – This has more of an effect on the Hatsan break barrel than the Umarex Gauntlet PCP

RECOMMENDATION

Great for the price, if you shooting them out of a multi-pump, a C02, PCP that shoot under 1000 FPS, these will probably work.  If you want to use these in a magnum springer, the narrow pellet skirts are probably a deal killer.
